To do this, it can seek to increase the amount it receives, or to reduce the amount it spends.

The government has chosen to focus almost exclusively on reducing the amount it spends, by cutting public services – schools, hospitals, welfare, libraries, student support.

We will not accept cuts to public services whilst the government ignores fairer alternatives:

• clamping down on tax dodging by corporations and rich individuals
• making banks contribute more and cutting subsidies to the banking sector before public services
• Challenging the cuts in local communities
• Empowering people and groups through the dissemination of information coupled with group support
